GBT Beach Changing Facilities

Grand Anse / Grenada

These small iconic structures were designed with prefabrication in mind. This enabled the buildings to be replicated in several locations along two main tourist beaches, namely Grand Anse and BBC beaches. Commissioned by the Grenada Board of Tourism (GBT) the facilities are intended to provide toilets, showers and lockers for public use.

Construction methods for each facility entailed the use of a singular concrete plinth for the floor area, while the walls/roof were composed of (3) varying sizes of prefabricated metal frames clad with a combination of Greenheart timber and Lumisite polycarbonate sheeting. The end result is a provocative structure drawing its references from nautical construction and indigenous timber buildings. Overall, the facilities are rendered to serve as attractors that add to the promotion of the tourist product developed by the island.
