Kyllmann Residence

Lance Aux Epines / Grenada

This project was designed as 'a home away from home' for a retired couple and their extended family. The project is comprised of two new houses with open plan living spaces, large verandas and service areas on the ground levels. The entrance to the property is marked by a sculptural hammered metal entrance gate designed by Bryan Bullen.

In order to moderate the scale of the buildings, the two houses were designed as three distinct volumes differentiated by color and texture. The houses were designed to 'bring the outside in'. Each has large glass openings to take advantage of the view and operable louvers to allow good air circulation. Translucent awnings diffuse soft light that accentuates the material palette of stained concrete, natural stone, tropical hard woods and stainless steel hardware.
