Marine Protected Area Building

Grand Mal / Grenada

Built on a tiny site on the west coast of St. George's , this 800 sqft. office building presented a design challenge to realize within the limits of its small budget. Funded by the French government this small building was designed to house the headquarters of the Marine Protected Areas project.

The Building is organized into two volumes. The first metal clad and framed volume houses office functions while the second made of concrete houses service functions (kitchen, toilet, locker room, etc.). The volumes are separated by a ramp which slopes gently towards the beach and is reinforced by a skylight directly above. "Off the shelf" components were used for doors, windows, cabinets, fixtures and fittings in order to keep costs down.
