Sankofa Residence

Carriacou / Grenada

Sankofa is an Akan word meaning "we should look to the past while moving forward into the future" and is symbolized by a bird in flight with its head turned backwards. As the name suggest, this holiday villa was designed to appear as a traditional African village that reflects the rich ancestry of the island of Carriacou. Conceived as a series of pavilions, the villa contains four guestrooms, with open plan living, and a central veranda with ocean views.

Each pavilion has unique character that is achieved by the skilful use of earth toned-pigmented concrete walls, (locally quarried) limestone floors, hardwood doors, and translucent skylight roofs, that are all crafted by local artisans that successfully combines the best of the old and new worlds.
