Wind control was a major challenge for this project. In combatting this challenge “a double skin” combination of operable vertical timber louvers and large sliding glass doors provided the best solution. A courtyard was placed where it could be shielded, yet open to the main living area. A sundeck at the roof top (enhanced by built-in concrete benches and low sculptural walls) allowed for the necessary protection from the wind, while maintaining visibility to the ocean.
Careful analysis of this project through tectonic adjustments has resulted in a dynamic structure that has rendered a successful, high quality contemporary home for tropical living
